Out of many changes that your body experiences during pregnancy, the development of Linea Nigra is one. It is identified as the dark vertical line in the middle of your tummy that can be seen with the naked eyes. You don’t have to worry if you notice this line on your tummy because it is meant to appear on your skin around your 23rd week of pregnancy when the hormones are at their utmost level.

Why does Linea Nigra develop?

The active pregnancy hormones in your body cause the hyper pigmentation that result in Linea Nigra. Though Linea Nigra is always there in the middle of your abdominal area but due to its white color, it generally goes unnoticed. It is known as the Linea Alba.
It connects the tissues of the muscles around that particular area. During pregnancy, this line expands when the abdominal area stretches. And because of the high levels of oxygen, the melanin production also increases leading to darkened line.

Does Linea Nigra stay forever?

Well, you will be glad to know that Linea Nigra doesn’t stay forever on your tummy. There are minimal chances of it leaving light marks on the skin. It generally fades away after your delivery. The simple reason behind this is that the hormones go back to their normal levels. It might take it a few months to a year to completely lighten.

It is a natural thing that will take place and you are advised not to apply any creams or do anything such to get rid of this. It might prove to be harmful for your unborn child.
